Saffron bulbs – Sizes #10 & more

The crocus is sterile, it reproduces by the grounding of the bulbs. The saffron flower does not grow from seed, bulbs need to be planted to ensure breeding.
The bulb multiplies each year. At the end of the cycle, the mother bulb dies to allow bulbils to grow, multiply and bloom.
After about 4 years, it is suggested to separate the bulbs and replant them on another piece of land.
These bulbs can be planted in a drained soil with a friable texture, dry during periods of rest and without excess moisture during the vegetative period. It is important to have a good sunshine on your plot.
Productivity is better in sandy soils. It is relatively indifferent to PH.
You can plant your corms 20-30 cm deep. Keep about 15-20 cm between your bulbs.

To obtain a better floral yield in the first year, it is important to plant large bulbs. This is why you will find bulbs # 9 and above, which corresponds to the diameter in cm of the bulb. The bigger the bulb, the higher your number of flowers will be in good conditions.
